Tacoma Public Schools offers families the flexibility to choose a school outside their assigned neighborhood school through our Choice Enrollment process. While we always recommend families start by exploring their neighborhood school, sometimes your neighborhood school isn't the best fit for your student or your family.   

Families can access the application now through their ParentVUE account. The deadline is Jan. 11, 2026, to submit a Choice Enrollment application for all grades.

Applications are reviewed and approved based on school capacity and program availability. Students must live within Tacoma Public Schools boundaries to apply, and families are responsible for providing transportation.  

This is the only opportunity to request a non-neighborhood school or transfer for the 2026-27 school year until June 1, 2026. All middle and high schools are hosting enrollment nights this fall for prospective students. Get the schedule here. 
 

IDEA, SAMI, SOTA application
If your child is in 8th grade and wants to apply to IDEA, SAMI or SOTA, the application is separate. The application will be available in ParentVUE from Oct. 20, 2025, through Jan. 11, 2026.
